It has been a while since I posted an update so here is goes.
The summer sturgeon fishery is in full swing. Daily trips are producing good, steady results. We are starting to see some more consistent fishing as we get into August. Sturgeon are starting to get a bit more aggressive on the bait making it a bit easier to know when to set the hook.
Best baits for us has been Lamprey eel, salmon parts and roe.
This short video is one of the most exciting takes for the season so far.
A couple of nice shots of a 93″ sturgeon.
With salmon season on the Fraser River off to a slow start with closures so far this season due to low numbers returning. We are expecting salmon openings in the later part of August. There are no dates as of yet but it is expected once the pink salmon start to migrate up the Fraser River there will be openings. Even if the Fraser River stays closed to salmon fishing, the Vedder River is currently open to salmon fishing. Sockeye salmon in the Vedder/ Chilliwack River are catch and release only. It will not be long before we see the first few pushes of pink salmon.
